In the first of a two-part build, Ian embarks on an ambitious project to create the ultimate off-road beast: a custom Toyota FJ45 pickup with long travel suspension capable of conquering the toughest terrains and slamming through the rocks with ease. Starting with a Tacoma “front clip”, he builds a custom frame behind it utilizing off-the-shelf long travel suspension and custom rear suspension with trailing arms. After building a custom chassis and dropping a body on it, along with body mounts and some custom tube work, he can begin looking at custom suspension and drivetrain parts.
